Well, at the heart of winter vaca, 2014. December 29 to be exact...almost 2015. Hard to believe. I think time is starting to go faster as we move further into the 21st century. No, really, it's not because I'm getting older...nah! has nothing to do with it. My parents used to say that, though, "Jeff, time goes soooo fast when ya get old!" I've heard some radio hosts refer to this feeling as "the quickening." They actually say that time is moving faster in this day and age. Hmmm. Does it mean they sense time as moving faster coz they're getting older too?
As I just posted in my other blog, Jeff's Place, I really did mean to post more often this year; I meant to, I really did. I was doing a lot of interesting stuff that I thought would make good posts. I had in my mind to...but actually time was a factor. Just had little time to do these things. And no, it's not an excuse, it's a reason. Now, being in winter vacation, I have some time. So I sat down and actually started to check these things and put more out there, and I vow to continue this effort...at least 200 words at at time!
As for JWB, we had a great year! Since Gene couldn't take part in the eating contest at the 15th anniversary party, Taka won with flying colors...¥6,000. And I think he could have done it had Gene been there, too. The party was on November 29th and we welcomed DJ Bozu and friends...and the Bliss had a little impromptu gig in the bar. Good times!
On October 25 we had the annual Halloween party at the bar...the week before was Ade's Social Bee H party. Both were a blast! This year I was both a zombie and Jane of the jungle (don's ask). Other horrific visitors included a zombie lady, mr. incredible, a ghost, and a zombie nurse. Cheers for next year!

Christmas Season 2013
Hey hey, Christmas is upon us again! Yep. This year was a good one...we had an awesome Halloween party on October 26 (pics will be uploaded soon), and then the 14th Anniversary party on November 30. We decided to bring back the eating contest which hasn't been done for the last couple of years due to lack of interest. This year we got it going again with spicy quesdillas (made at Corazon by Hilary) as the food of choice. Contestants totaled 8, and even I entered this year! Of course, eating champ Gene entered, and when the shot was fired, the eaters took the bull by the horns and started shoving things in. I got about 2 and 1/2 in when I looked over at Graeme who was finishing number 3, and Taka was on 4 reaching for 5. At that point I noticed Gene who shoved both numbers 4 and 5 in and slogged them down. Uh-oh! It was all over! Gene had won again!
We'll have nice things happening on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, and a year-end dance party bash on December 28 featuring DJ's Bozu and Shu. Of course, we'll have the countdown party happening on December 31 from 8 -? where we'll be escorting out 2013 and welcoming in 2014. I'm kind of happy coz even-numbered years tend to be luckier for me! Hope to see you there!

2013 and Going Strong
June of 2013. The world didn't end on December 21, 2012, we didn't fall into the ocean, no tremendous hole swallowed us up, no incredible blizzards ala Day After Tomorrow. The only thing we have to worry about is a little closer to home - jobs, debt problems, encroaching security problems on the Net, and, yes, North Korea. Being in Japan, North Korea is just across the Japan Sea, which makes it too close actually, although NK's bark is probably worse than its bite. The most recent news from the strange country is that they have nuclear weapons on one hand, and they want to "talk" with the US...and Obama ain't havin that one. You get rid of those weapons, and THEN we'll talk, is the general consensus. I really don't know what North Korea is thinking...we (and by we I mean the rest of the normal world) can squash it in a few minutes, right? Do they have a death wish or something? Doesn't everyone agree? Anyway, we'll see what happens. And you know what the ancient Chinese curse is, right? "May you live in interesting times." We certainly do. I just hope they don't decide to lob a radical nuclear bomb over the Japan sea right onto my dinner plate...

January Already
Can't believe my last post was on December 4th! OMG, how time flies. I'll have to definitely get a move-on. Need to make more blog posts than one a month, which is what it has been turning into lately.
The end of the year brought some pretty cool parties, and good times. The good times weren't dependent on the parties, in other words, people came to party whether there was a party or not! Some of the normal weekends were bigger than the so-called party weekends. As I suspected, December 24 (our X-mas Eve party) went well, but a bit quiet. I was able to give away free food courtesy of Mike from Hawaii. He roasted a chicken, threw in some fries, made a salmon salad, had deer ribs, some wild boar, and more. I've had free food parties before, but sorry, didn't tell enough people! Sorry about that...let's do it again next year!
December 25 was the X-mas Day party, and this one was rockin, if only because it was Saturday night. A weird night for Christmas! And the next one was the countdown party on December 31st. A good blast, although not as huge as years before. Could it be that people were gettin sick of parties??
The new year has seen us off to a good start; last weekend was quite busy, but I think people are relaxing and saving some cash! Hey, let's see what this next month brings! Stay tuned for more info on new cocktails, nights, and events.

A Slammin Night
It was yet another good night at JWB last night, not completely packed all night, but a constant groove throughout. Saw a lot of people I hadn't seen in quite a while. Nice! The next big event will be Christmas, although Christmas has a tendency to get mellow. People want to hang out at home I guess. After that, though, will be the countdown party on December 31st, the biggest event at the bar next to the Halloween party. Surely a good time to be had by all!

Already Winter 2010
I can't believe it's December already! After that post about Halloween, we had several events and happenings at JWB. On Saturday, November 27th, we had the 11th anniversary party. It went pretty well, but it wasn't without glitches. For example, what to eat? I decided to try to do some spicy curry from Sri Lanka across the hall...the hottest one they have, which is sssssssuuuuuupppper spicy! But they had to close at 11:30, and no one had signed up by then. So we decided on Mac burgers. Another small glitch: one person in the eating contest didn't show up, and our female contender could only commit to 5 burgers. That meant our other two contenders only had to down 5, a small feat for Gene, the reigning champ. He was so fast he started grabbing Yoko's burgers and munching them. Needless to say, he won.
On another note, the planned raffle got canned coz toooo many people showed up for DJ Datecky, who did a great job spinning tunes all night. Great job Date! Everyone loved it, and kept going til the morning light. It would've been impossible and foolish to stop that, so we didn't do it. But the music was awesome, and the vibe like none other. A great night, with the closing bell (a yell from Jeff) happening at 7 AM on Sunday.
I would like to have an eating contest with extra spicy curry in the upcoming days, so think about giving it a shot. And the countdown party is set to happen without fail on December 31st...again, hope to have Datecky and an all-nighter til the AM. With tons o' fun of course!
See u around.
