A Slammin Night

It was yet another good night at JWB last night, not completely packed all night, but a constant groove throughout. Saw a lot of people I hadn't seen in quite a while. Nice! The next big event will be Christmas, although Christmas has a tendency to get mellow. People want to hang out at home I guess. After that, though, will be the countdown party on December 31st, the biggest event at the bar next to the Halloween party. Surely a good time to be had by all!

Already Winter 2010

I can't believe it's December already! After that post about Halloween, we had several events and happenings at JWB. On Saturday, November 27th, we had the 11th anniversary party. It went pretty well, but it wasn't without glitches. For example, what to eat? I decided to try to do some spicy curry from Sri Lanka across the hall...the hottest one they have, which is sssssssuuuuuupppper spicy! But they had to close at 11:30, and no one had signed up by then. So we decided on Mac burgers. Another small glitch: one person in the eating contest didn't show up, and our female contender could only commit to 5 burgers. That meant our other two contenders only had to down 5, a small feat for Gene, the reigning champ. He was so fast he started grabbing Yoko's burgers and munching them. Needless to say, he won.

On another note, the planned raffle got canned coz toooo many people showed up for DJ Datecky, who did a great job spinning tunes all night. Great job Date! Everyone loved it, and kept going til the morning light. It would've been impossible and foolish to stop that, so we didn't do it. But the music was awesome, and the vibe like none other. A great night, with the closing bell (a yell from Jeff) happening at 7 AM on Sunday.

I would like to have an eating contest with extra spicy curry in the upcoming days, so think about giving it a shot. And the countdown party is set to happen without fail on December 31st...again, hope to have Datecky and an all-nighter til the AM. With tons o' fun of course!

See u around.

Halloween time...almost

Yep, about that time again! Halloween, 2010 is just around the corner. Don't forget to dress up in your favorite costumes...I've done em all! A pirate, Jason, a baby, a school girl, Elvis, a nurse, a vampire, and more...it's always a fun time!

Want to take this time to say that soon we will be starting the JWB podcast...that's the operative word...soon...check back to this blog for more info as to when. The podcast will have humorous stories, interviews, gags, laughs, troublesome foreigner stories, and all around good fun.

Thursday, the Holiday

Not sure I remember exactly what holiday it is, but here is another one, to follow one on Monday (respect for the aged day)...a lotta holidays are OK with me and us here at JWB! Last night we closed at about 4, and I was hoping for a bigger turn-out, but it was fun nonetheless. Had some rain which probably dampened the evening, no pun intended. Fall is always a time of busy-ness around here, and the bar is no exception. We have our annual Halloween party on Saturday, October 30th. And the 11th year anniversary will be on Saturday, November 27th, the actual day we opened back in 99. Join us for some fun!

Away, Not Gone!

Back in action! That's what I said when I got back to Kumamoto from Cambodia. A great time, but busy! Yesterday was the Fujisakigu Festival, or as I like to call it, the Drunken Horse Festival, because apparently, groups used to give their horses alcohol and prod them so they get a little crazy. Well, the alcohol is gone these days, but they still prod the horses on as they march down the tiny streets of Kumamoto! It's a really cool festival seen every September here in Kumamoto. And we opened the bar at around 5 to watch from the windows. Luckily, they come right down our street!

Wow that last post was a long time ago! That was Happy 7th, and now we're heading to Happy 11th!! All I can say is that time flies. The 10th anniversary was a blast, as was the 9th...the 8th is a blur in my mind. The 9th was the first one for the hamburger eating contest, which went off with a few slight problems...and Gene ended up the winner after eating 10 burgers in 9 minutes! That was the goal then - eat as many as you could in 9 minutes, it being the 9th anniversary and all. Last year for the 10th, we decided to make the rule be eat 10 as fast as you could. And yes, Gene won again with 10 the fastest!
